Hosted PBX vs Premise-based PBX

Reasons for Hosted Based PBX phone system:

  • NO Physical maintenance. The burden of having to locate, protect, maintain and service sensitive hardware on site is on us!   A cool, clean, and dedicated room with backup power is needed to house the telephone switch/server.  Our equipment is located in hardened,  Tier 1 Carrier data center.
  • NO Technicians. The need to call (or to train and employ) a technician every time a phone or an employee needs to be added, moved, reassigned, or removed from the system is not necessary.
  • NO Costly wiring. Traditional phone systems must be hard-wired – every phone location requires copper wire be pulled and a special phone jack installed. (In contrast, NETsystems’s Hosted PBX solution uses the same Internet connection and jack that is already installed to connect your computer to the Internet.)
  • NO Costly upgrades. Adding a new feature to a traditional phone system will require either replacing the switch/server or adding another piece of hardware.
  • NO PBX hardware to buy or maintain. Equipment is typically included, leased, or rented.
  • Streamlined cost of ownership. One provider to pay.
  • Some disaster recovery benefits. If there is a problem at your office you can communicate from anywhere –traditionally hosted PBX providers are located in data centers which offer optimal conditions to house a communication system.
  • Single point of contact for all aspects of your communications system. Installation, maintenance, financing, and phone and internet service.

Negatives:

  • Phones will place a strain on your  internet connection – every simultaneous phone call that you make will  take about 35-64K of bandwidth (usually factor about 1 channel of a T1 per call) so you will most likely need an additional T1 or broadband connection for every set of 20 or so phones that you are planning on using at the same time.
  • Phones are 100 % dependent on the internet – this means if the Internet goes down or there are any computer networking problems at your office, you run the risk of having a total failure of all your communication systems.  Our system has auto-fail over to a Cell or Land line of your choice for extra redundancy that you do not have with premise.
  • Size…at some point it may be more cost effective to have your own system.  We typically see a breakeven or savings at around 20-25 hosted pbx extensions depending on the features needed.  If you outgrow the hosted pbx phone systems, NetSYSTEMS, Inc. can provide a robust premise based solution if that is a better fit.
